Dirty Money Volkswagen Poster

10 MONKEYS AND A BEETLE. 🙈🙉🙊🚗 After watching Netflix’s brilliant “Dirty Money: Episode 1 Hard NOx.” The episode details Volkswagen’s corporate deceit and the unholy alliance between governments and automakers that allowed the company to risk tens of thousands of lives – for the sake of a $500 part.

The Story

Testing of the 2013 Beetle and a 2004 Ford F250 pick-up by the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico was originally due to use humans pedaling on exercise bikes.

But the study was changed to feature 10 monkeys watching TV cartoons in airtight gas chambers with diesel fumes directed through a series of tubes. The findings were never published and all three carmakers have now distanced themselves from the testing process.

Below are a few of the inspirations for my advert, I wanted to emulate the style that they pioneered in their original lemon campaign from back in 1959.

After watching Netflix’s brilliant “Dirty Money,” Which is an American documentary TV series which tells stories of corporate corruption. Each episode focuses on one example of corporate corruption and includes interviews with key players in each story.

After watching the series I was inspired to create a few adverts, the series would satirically use the companies art style, to communicate who is doing what. I did adverts for the episodes about Volkswagen & HSBC.
